Two Virgins was filmed on the same day as Smile in John’s garden at Kenwood (in Weybridge) in the summer of 1968. Both films premiered at the Chicago Film Festival on November 14 that same year.

The film is a moving portrait of John and Yoko in the garden. Their images separate and entwine until their faces become superimposed, separating and merging perfectly. They embrace and kiss in slow-motion, becoming one with the sky and clouds.

“When we met we were so involved with each other that we couldn’t see anybody around us. We were just looking at each other and sometimes noticed that people were around us. We didn’t have time or space to consider what we looked like to others. We were really in a dream.”

– Yoko to Jonathan Cott, Yoko Ono and Her Sixteen-Track Voice,

Rolling Stone March 18, 1971

There are also scenes of John walking around the house near his swimming pool and playing guitar. The camerawork is by Richard Wareing with a soundtrack by John Lennon and Yoko Ono (from their album Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins). Produced by Apple Films.
